With his very individual, but at the same time universal imagery, Paul Klee (1879-1940) is one of the most important artists of the 20th century. As early as 1901 it was clear to him: "I want to become a good artist." Covering all creative phases, the volume uses more than 200 works to visualize Klee's visionary, poetic imagery, which merges the abstract and the figurative in a unique way. Klee's oeuvre is presented in thematic units: the life cycle of man from birth and childhood through eros and parental role to death as well as his cultural forms of expression in music, theater and religion and his environment with plants, animals and landscapes. Klee's cosmos turns out to be a circle of ideas and images that tries to grasp and interpret the totality of the world. In a detailed essay that analyzes Paul Klee's engagement with a selection of the most important artists of his time, Klee's research is enriched by a central aspect.
