Jimmy Pike is a Walmajarri man who was born in his family's country in the Great Sandy Desert. He left the desert when he was still a boy, and went to work on cattle stations in the Kimberley, as did most of his close relations. Later, he lived in Fitzroy Crossing, which is a small town in Bunuba country, and became an artist. In more recent years, he and his relations started moving back to their own country in the desert, and set up an outstation. Jimmy's first language is Walmajarri, but he also speaks several other desert languages and Kriol.
